Here are a collection of simple, different ways that your child might like to paint today.

Paint What You See Activity

Jul 22, 2013

We're on Holiday! This is a guest post for Learn with Play at home written by the lovely Nae from Adventures At Home with Mum. Enjoy, Debs :)

Paint what you see

Painting is a creatively fun yet educational activity for children and an easy activity for parents to engage in. It can be messy at times but this is half of the experience so don’t let that put you off.  (Here are some more of my Messy Painting Tips)  Apart from being a sensory discovery, creative and fun, painting is very beneficial to a child’s development.

Free painting is great for little hands and we do free paint a lot but this time around we had a different painting Adventure with the aim of painting objects. “Paint what you see” was the only direction.  With this direction the benefits of painting become more apparent and the object the child is painting becomes more visually represented.

This is a great way to help children step up from colour mixed blob paintings to real life object paintings. But remember that the process is more important, not the product; It is what they learn not what it looks like.

We're on Holiday! This is a guest post for Learn with Play at home written by the lovely Pauline from Lessons Learnt Journal. Enjoy, Debs :)

Mr N and M can identify and name numerals from zero to ten and are working on naming and identifying all the numerals to twenty. We've done a lot of work with language, symbols, pictures and concrete experiences, and it feels like we've conquered a mini mountain to get this far.

Cooking with Kids. Sweet Chilli, Ginger & Lemongrass Chicken Stir Fry Rice Paper Rolls with Dipping Sauce.

Jul 18, 2013

This post is sponsored by Nuffnang.

With 2 young children, dinners at our place generally need to be something fresh, tasty, healthy and quick which is why it's no surprise that stir fry's are a weekly occurrence for us. They make a great, simple, balanced meal that's quick to prepare and can be adjusted to suit whatever meat and veg you have on hand. Win!

I was excited to try the new Maggi Stir Fry Creations range as the unique two-step process, (included in the one handy pack) means that you can create a stir fry with a different layering of flavours and ensure that the meat is tender and infused with flavour and the vegetables are still crisp and coated with sauce. Yum!

The Maggi Stir Fry Creations range includes 5 flavours to try including our family favourites Honey, Soy & Garlic and Teriyaki & Sesame as well as some new combinations of Chinese Five Spice & Soy and Garlic & Ginger Chicken
The flavour that really peaked my initial interest was the fifth flavour of Sweet Chilli, Ginger & Lemongrass Chicken which inspired me to create a dish that we often make for parties and quick lunches at our place, Rice Paper Rolls. The flavour combination seemed to be ideal for this dish and the bonus was that there was already a suitable dipping sauce included!

After trying a number of different dishes using the Maggi Stir Fry Creations range, our whole family agreed that the infused meat tastes really good and having the handy sauce to spill over the top of your stir frys (or use as a dipping sauce like we did) brought the flavours together and was enjoyed by all.

Simple Toddler Colour Matching Activity

Jul 16, 2013

It's so important to provide children with as many
opportunities for learning as we can give them and encouraging them to always have a go

Here is a simple matching activity that you might like to set up and try with your own children. It involves them focusing on colours of objects and matching them together. Adding one LEGO brick to one coloured sponge also demonstrates one-to-one correspondence.

5 Paper Plate-a-sauruses with templates

Here’s an activity for all the dinosaur-loving kids out there. These paper plate-a-sauruses are based on the real species and all feature a colourful paper plate body with a paper cut-out head, legs and tail.

They can help kids learn the real names of the dinosaurs and also have a fun, messy art and craft element to them.

My friend’s 5 year old boy tested this idea out for me and absolutely LOVED the dinosaurs he made (a T-rex and a Stegosaurus), and suggested next time we could make a Pterodactyl and a Diplodocus

I’ve gone one better and created a Triceratops as well, so you have 5 dinosaur templates to choose from that you can make with your kids. My girls had fun making these too.
